CCME adds Media Player

Some intuitions (e.g. hospitals) only install Windows Media Player for video archives or streaming. In addition many users can not install QuickTime player on these machines. As a result our new archived content will be available both in QuickTime and Windows Media format. For example see the interview on ECHO. Content available in QuickTime and Media Player will be identified by this logo.

FireFox fails
Posted by michael on Sep 17, 2008 13:35
There appear to be issues with Firefox and Quicktime. If you are getting very poor quality Webcasts from us (Rural, tels etc) using Firefox please use Safari on a Mac or Explorer on Windows.

Need a fast connection, but ......
Posted by michael on Apr 28, 2008 17:39

In the country? No DSL, cable or wireless? See our streams via satellite internet!
This is an image of a 256Kbits/sec hybrid satellite connection (Skywaysusa) from the farmland of Vermont.
The connection was excellent for the audio and the 112Kbit/s video streams. Faster satellite connections are available for our faster streams.

Live risk calculator
Posted by michael on Feb 20, 2007 9:50

This is a risk calculator and BMI calculator that is a real virtual instrument. The switches and the sliders really work and makes it easy to show the effect of interventions. The screen in printable so it can be given to patients. It is based on the Framingham study. This version runs only on Apple computers, a Windows version will follow.

To use the calculator first down load the dmg file from the CME server. Then download the runtime engine from the National Instruments server and install it.

Note this is a trial version so please let us know if it has any glitches. It is meant to be a teaching aid for cardiac risk factors.

The CME site will now publish original articles on medical topics. These should be clinically oriented. They will be reviewed by the editor and an outside peer reviewer. Submissions should be made by email with the text in MS Word or RTF format to me at micheal.rosengarten@mcgill.ca. Videos are best sent in.mov format, images in jpeg or gif.
